BenefitsBy volunteering for the Point-in-Time Count and Registry week, you will be helping collect information that governments, service providers, community groups, and funders use to plan appropriate programs and services which address homelessness and measure our community’s progress in reducing homelessness. Data collected will also inform local policy and service delivery planning in addition to connecting individuals and families who lack housing stability to Housing First services.

Skills/ExperienceCommunication & Interpersonal Skills - Good communication skills are important for survey administration and administrative support. ; Confidentiality - Confidentiality is essential. ; Customer Service - A customer service orientation accompanied with acceptance and non-judgment is needed to create a comfortable atmosphere when collecting personal information. ; Dependability & Trustworthiness - Trusting relationships need to be built quickly with survey respondents. ; First Aid - First Aid knowledge/experience is an asset. ; Friendly & Outgoing - Must be approachable and easy to communicate with. ; General Computer Skills - Computer skills are essential for data entry volunteers. ; Leadership - Each survey team requires 1 person to take on a leadership role. This leader will have a few additional responsibilities in regards to coordinating their team. ; Listening Skills - Active listening is imperative when recording the survey answers that respondents give. ; Patience ; Planning & Organizing - Planning and organizing will be taken on by each team lead and administrative support. ; Positive / Cheerful Demeanor ; Research - The Point-in-Time Count & Registry week is a social research project taking place with real people. Having experience in research will be an asset, particularly for data entry volunteers. ; Self-Motivated / Work Independently - Being self-motivated is never a bad thing! ; Team Work ; Translation & Languages - The ability to speak in another language is an asset. ; Writing & Editing - Writing will be an essential skill as respondent's answers are recorded onto surveys and entered into a database.
Commitment LengthOne Time / Special Event - Point-in-Time Count & Registry Week - evening of Tuesday, April 24 - Thursday, April 26. Data entry will take place from Friday, April 27 - Monday, April 30.
Interaction LevelSmall Group - Each survey team and administrative support team will consist of 3 individuals, including 1 leader in each of these teams. ; Large Group - Large group interactions will likely occur during training sessions, and at the headquarters location where teams meet, sign-in, sign-out, and debrief.

SeasonsSpring ; This is taking place at the end of April when weather conditions can be unpredictable. Weather conditions will be monitored, and unless there is the threat of extremely severe weather, we will seek to carry out these surveys on the above scheduled dates. Please dress appropriately for the weather.

TrainingOrientation - Orientation will be provided prior to each shift ; Training is provided - Training will be provided. ; Training is required - Training for survey administrators is mandatory. ; Scheduled training - Training will be scheduled to take place in various locations across Simcoe County from April 16 - 23 in the afternoon and evenings. ; Training locations, dates, and times will be communicated in the near future.
TransportationNear public transit - Public transportation availability will vary based on location. ; Driver License required - A driver's license will be required for anyone that will be driving while volunteering. ; Car required - One car will be required for each survey team to travel to and from their survey destination. We will coordinate these teams on our end. ; Transportation provided - Transportation to and from survey destinations will be provided as survey teams will travel together. ; Teams will be arranged so that at least one individual on each team has a driver's license and access to a vehicle, however, individuals are responsible to arrange for their own transportation to and from their shift start and end (headquarters) location.
