Description (Service) | Provides a meeting place where individuals or families can interact to strengthen and promote cultural programs and to educate about what is important to Anishnabek people and develop awareness and strengthen knowledge of issues important to all people. Centre provides a variety of programs. Anyone who is interested in accessing or learning about programs, can stop by the centre, call or visit website to view program calendars. Programs and activities include but are not limited to: Play area for children, sitting area for adults, TV, books to read, refreshments, resource library, computer's open for public use (job search, resource information, assignments) Canadian Prenatal & Nutrition Program - provides all Metis, off- reserve aboriginal and Inuit women healthier pregnancy choices including: cooking and nutrition * infant development * traditional crafts * exercise and prenatal classes. Services offered are: home and hospital visits * fresh food bags * weekly food vouchers * breastfeeding counseling * connections to Elders and Traditional ceremonies Aboriginal Healing and Wellness Strategy - provides crisis intervention for women and children at risk * reduces family violence through awareness, education and counselling with groups for women, children, men * offers training and workshops on anger management and healthy relationships * referrals to community services Ontario Early Years Centre - Child and parent programs * support and information, see separate entry for details Community Action Program for Children - reduce family violence through community awareness, education and peer counselling * provide crisis intervention for women and children, advocacy, referral and workshops Life-Long Care Program - Assists urban Aboriginal clients to live independently and provides services for the frail elderly, chronically ill or those with physical disabilities * services include transportation, friendly visiting, security checks, congregate dining and home |
