POSITION OVERVIEW: The Arthritis Society is recruiting for dedicated, caring and enthusiastic FLOATERS to volunteer at Camp Cambria, a camp for children living with arthritis, from August 19, 2018 to August 25, 2018 inclusive (pre-training required). 
Location: Camp Kodiak (Host Camp) Located North of Perry Sound in McKellar, ON 
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: ▪ Supporting the Camp Director and Program Staff in running and implementation of daily activities, lending support, where necessary, in order to deliver high quality programs. ▪ Assist in the organization and supervision of campers within the scheduled activities and throughout the day, providing necessary breaks for our camp counsellors. ▪ Act as a positive role model to staff and campers, participating actively and enthusiastically in all camp activities. ▪ Under the guidance of the Camp Director and Program Staff, Floaters may also be assigned various administrative and program support duties, or provide additional support to transporters and camp counsellors. ▪ Ensure a high standard of health and safety of campers in all activities at camp. 
▪ Promote and support the mission of The Arthritis Society. 
SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES: 
▪ Comprehensive understanding of the implications of living with arthritis, gained by living with arthritis and/or working/volunteering with people living with arthritis and / or chronic pain. 
▪ Valid CPR/First aid training certification. 
▪ Satisfactory completion of Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Verification 
▪ Previous experience working with children in a camp and/or education setting 
▪ Passion for working with children of all ages. 
▪ Excellent leadership skills, teamwork and communication skills.

Big Brothers Traditional Program - A Big Brother is matched with a Little Brother, ensuring they have similar interests to spend one-to-one time together to talk, play ball, watch a movie or just hang out together.  
 
Big Sisters Traditional Program - A Big Sister is matched with a Little Sister ensuring they have similar interests to spend one-to-one time together, developing a friendship and engage in mutually desired activities.  
 
Couples for Kids - Volunteer with your partner or spouse and be matched to a Little Brother or Little Sister to give the gift of friendship to a child.  
 
In-School Mentoring- The program takes place at the child’s school, during the school year. The mentor spends one hour per week doing a fun activity or just talking with a child who could use a friend. Employers are encouraged to give employees the time during the work day to volunteer. 
 
Boys Club for boys 9-12 years of age - The group meets Tuesday's at 6:30 at Connaught Public School. It includes a wide variety of recreational activities. Call for locations and times. 
 
Cops, Kids and Communities - Officers, Auxiliary Officers and Administrative Staff from Collingwood and the Huronia West OPP detachments have joined forces with BBBS to allow children to spend time doing fun, healthy activities such as bowling, swimming and touring the OPP and fire stations while promoting the basic principles of respect, understanding, healthy eating and an active lifestyle. 
 
Homework Club - Currently operates on Tuesday and Thursday after school in Collingwood. Children in the BBBS program are matched to high school helpers who work one to one under the BBBS staff supervision. Healthy snacks are provided. Call for locations and times. 
 
Summer Camp Programs - Clients who might not otherwise have an opportunity to experience camp life or to travel outside their region are given priority but program is accessible to any client. 
 
Behind the scenes - There are many committee and project roles for volunteers who have different schedules and different assets to bring to the table. Some shorter term projects include arranging our yearly raffle (donations, tickets), working on furthering our endowment fund project, working on furthering our capital project for a larger and owned office space, Bowl for Kids Support to work on planning items for our big bowling event, creation of our signature lifesaver matchbooks. The primary duty of a greeter is to greet the people who arrive. They would direct patrons to the Ushers that will show them to their seats. Greeters primary duty is to help guests feel welcome, though they may have other duties that are required during their slotted volunteer term.

This volunteer position requires volunteers to set up (prior to events) and tear down (end of events) tables and chairs, label chairs or bleachers and arrange event material. Please note that volunteers for this position may be required to be on site early in the morning prior to the event and later in the evening following the events for tear down. There could be some heavy lifting. 
It is required that you wear proper clothing and proper foot attire.

▪ Transport campers and/or staff to medical facilities when additional care is required. 
▪ Responsible for monitoring and distributing hot and cold packs throughout the day, as necessary. ▪ Act as a positive role model to staff and campers. ▪ Under the guidance of the Camp Director and Program Staff, Transporters may be asked to perform various supportive duties, including delivering refreshments to campers and assisting with luggage drop off. ▪ Ensure a high standard of health and safety of campers in all activities at camp, including the proper use of golf carts at all times. 
SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES: 
▪ Comprehensive understanding of the implications of living with arthritis, gained by living with arthritis and/or working/volunteering with people living with arthritis and / or chronic pain.
